Phyllis is a lonely woman in Lagos, Nigeria who lives for Jesus, Dionne Warwick and Nollywood dramas. Her life defined by the attempt to escape a profound emptiness she cannot ever truly shake. PHYLLIS is an example of what the director, Zina Saro-Wiwa, has termed “alt-Nollywood”, a new genre that plays with and reworks narrative, stylistic and visual conventions of Nigeria’s Nollywood film industry.

Zina Saro-Wiwa is a Nigerian born film-maker and video artist. She is the founder of AfricaLab, a production company dedicated to re-imagining Africa through visual media, principally film and art. Saro-Wiwa is the director of the award-winning documentary This is my Africa, which was part of the AITP festival program in 2009.

This film will be screened with OTTO THE BLOODBATH

This short film is also part of the Round about African Shorts program, Shorts 3 and will be screened with THE DELIVERANCE OF COMFORT - THE LEGEND OF NGONG HILLS - ALAMBAMENTO - STRESSED - TINYE SO - ZEBU
